As a political cartoonist, I’ve drawn many cartoons about Christie Christie where I’ve used his weight to get across a point. Well, today’s Philadelphia Daily News took it up a notch, declaring Chrisite and the President “think & thin” on the cover of today’s paper following Obama’s visit to the storm-ravaged Jersey Shore (check out my new cartoon about Obama and Christie’s “bromance”).
I for one appreciate the snark, and think newspapers need to take steps to try and be less “bland” in this hyper-competitive news environment. So I give credit to headline writer Doug Darroch for having the guts to go through with it. However, I’m sure many will be offended and angry that the Daily News “went there” with a fat joke in the post-Sandy era of bipartisanship and healing.
