More Over Honey Boo Boo, here comes Pete Rose

People made a big deal about the Mayan calendar heralding in the end of the world, but I think “Pete Rose: Hits & Mrs.” might be a more suitable symbol for the downfall of humanity.
Here you have a “should be in the Hall of Fame” baseball legend reduced to a knuckle-dragging opportunist, spouting chauvinistic cut-downs to a barbie doll fiance nearly 40 years his junior. The Learning Channel, indeed.
According to Kiana Kim, who’s obviously isn’t using this opportunity to cash in herself, Rose is still miffed about being banned from the Hall of Fame. But Rose says, “I never think about it. I don’t worry about things that are out of my control. I’ll get my just due someday. That’s the American way.”
I think Rose got things mixed up. The real American way these days seems to be cashing in on a trashy reality show and giving up your last remaining shred of dignity for a quick payday and Snooki-like infamy. Unfortunately for sports fans who have rooted for Rose his entire career, reality TV has its new Charlie Hustle.
