According to Chris Christie, Mitt hasn’t called him since Hurricane Sandy hit

3 Nov

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was on XM radio last night being interviewed by Chris “Mad Dog” Russo about the Jersey Shore and the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

To no one’s surprise, Christie spent time praising President Obama’s leadership to New Jersey, even going so far as calling the President’s actions “amazing.”

Russo followed up by asking Christie if Mitt Romney had called, and Christie answered, “Governor Romney last called me on Sunday as Sandy was approaching.”

Anyone else feel that chill? Christie has his new bromance, and poor Mittens has been thrown to the curb. Christie even went on to throw alcohol onto the wound on his Twitter feed:

What’s funny is the same Conservatives that chastise President Obama for his unwillingness to work across the aisle are personally attacking Christie for daring to do the same during a crisis. Rush Limbaugh, with no sense of irony, attacked the Governor’s weight, saying Christie is “fat and a fool.” He went on to refer to Christie as Obama’s “Greek column.

Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch went further, warning Christie that he needed to reaffirm his support for Romney “or take blame for the next four dire years.”

You don’t suppose Christie is a little miffed he wasn’t chosen for VP?

On the contrary – by all accounts, it seems Christie was Romney’s first choice, and turned him down.

By all accounts? You mean that story planted in the Post? Come on Rob… that’s nonsense. He was not, nor was he ever going to be, Romney’s first choice for VP, he was never asked, and he never turned it down.

Had he been asked… the number of people who have been asked, “will you be my Vice President” who have said no, is exactly ZERO.

I know you want to play the game, Rob, but please don’t spread nonsense like that. It is bad enough you’re trying to make this into a “thing” when it isn’t a “thing” at all. Rush Limbaugh, contrary to what you and the rest on the left seem to think, is not the spokesman of the right. I haven’t listened to his show in probably ten years, and none of us take him all that seriously. Murdoch wasn’t slamming Christie at all, in fact he praised him, he simply said he would reconfirm his support for Romney.

And you are trying to make a really big deal out of quite literally nothing. It is supposed to matter that Romney called him Sunday and hasn’t been bothering him while he’s been working on post-hurricane clean up? Really? Romney is a candidate for president… Christie has bigger things to worry about right now.

There is quite literally no bad blood there at all, no frost. The campaign would prefer Christie cooled it on the love-fest, sure, but there’s nothing there. But by all means, continue to try to make something exist there if you must. Just do me a favor and don’t spread garbage tabloid gossip, and at least try to base it in reality.

Not only the Post story, but today Politico reported that Mitt Romney “campaign insiders” say that Gov. Christie was Romney’s first choice to be his running mate:

I don’t know if this is a “big deal,” but it’s certainly very interesting. I’ve followed Christie for years now, and this level of praise is simply out-of-character for him, especially towards someone most would consider to be a political enemy. To pretend there are no politics involved would be incredibly naive. It might be something as simple as Christie seeing which way the breeze is blowing for his future both in New Jersey and on the national level. There is also the obvious need to get everything he can from Obama and the Federal Government to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy.

What is more of a concern to the Romney camp, I imagine, is Christie continuing to praise Obama, day after day, without even a caveat being mentioned about his support of Mitt Romney. Or can we no longer walk and chew gum at the same time?
